The week of Thanksgiving is here! The grocery stores are packed with pumpkin pie filling and frozen turkeys sitting in the bins. There are masses of gourds and baby pumpkins and all sorts of savory goodies and seasonal decorations. At my local grocery store, there are more shoppers and the carts are fuller…you can just feel the holiday growing closer. Since I have never really been the cook in my family, I usually skirt by the holiday with a small assignment of preparing a simple vegetable or maybe even just purchasing the rolls and butter. It’s better that way…leave the cooking to the professionals, I say.
I have never really understood why we have to have so much to eat and why we stuff ourselves silly for one meal. My conclusion is that I am in the minority and just enjoy the holiday complete with a Gobble Wobble walk and of course, the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade. The theme of abundance and thanksgiving is however, what I can relate to as I symbolically fill my plate with gratitude and blessings. After all, my plate has always runneth over and it multiplies each year as I become a ‘gratitude junkie.’
Our young pastor Sunday morning gave an interesting sermon on the flip we make from the abundant feeling of Thanksgiving Day compared t0 Black Friday where so many become crazed and madly attempt to gather more things filled with the fear that there is not enough to go around. Isn’t that the way we lead our lives? Fearing we will not have enough. Fearing there is not enough abundance to go around. Envying those who seem to have more and perhaps the most debilitating feeling of fearing we are not deserving or worthy.
I would love to package up a perfect gift holding the magic gadget which could delete all of our fears and download whatever you desired that was good. I will keep working on that project but in the meantime, I know of a tried and true tool box filled with perfect tools which repair, build, polish and shine. Using just a few of these tools on a daily basis is really just as effective as a genie in a bottle.
Wishes and dreams come true, fears subside and abundances in your mind and heart begin to fill and overflow.
There is one important piece you must acquire before you can begin using the tool box and that is surrender. Not until I was completely and thoroughly convinced that I could not find the answers anymore on my own, sorta like reaching a bottom or a real low, was I able to to begin seeing the tools really working. It was then that the fun began and is currently flooding my gates with true abundance!
